Curso de Agricultura Sintrópica

Information in English follows below Spanish.

Tomas Guzman

During this course, we will share the principles of syntropic agriculture, from design to implementation and management of highly productive agroforestry systems on land degraded by human activity.

The focus of this system is the production of annual crops (vegetables, grains, and tubers) and semi-perennial fruits (papaya, pineapple, passion fruit, etc.) in order to increase the percentage of food self-sufficiency for the residents, collaborators, and visitors of the project.

We will also explore the existing agroforestry systems at Tierramor, which have been planted for over 2–3 years and are designed in accordance with the context of the humid tropical forest of Guanacaste.

What is syntropic agriculture?

Syntropic agriculture is a practical philosophy based on principles that help us understand and imitate the dynamics, structure, and functionality of the original ecosystem where intervention is planned to create agroforestry production systems.

The goal is to fill all ecological niches within the agroecosystem across space and time, integrating pioneer, secondary, and primary species within the same area. These systems rely on management techniques such as observation, pruning, and harvesting to accelerate the regeneration of the system.
